Coventry Cathedral was filled with pride and celebration on Tuesday 17 February, as Phoenix Rising, the Children in Care band performed live
Phoenix Rising, the Children in Care band formed through a partnership between Coventry Music and the Coventry Virtual School, took to the stage for a standout performance at this year’s Awards Ceremony.
Marking a major milestone in their musical journey, the band debuted two original songs, each reflecting lived experiences shared by the young people themselves. One of the pieces held particular significance: it was co‑written by students who took part in a recent songwriting project at Doly‑Moch, drawing on the creativity, honesty, and teamwork nurtured during the residential.
Their performance captivated the audience, earning enthusiastic applause and heartfelt praise. The young musicians demonstrated not only their musical talent but also remarkable courage in sharing stories that matter to them. At the end of the evening, every band member was proudly awarded a medal in recognition of their hard work, commitment, and growth. For many, it was another important step in building confidence, both on and off the stage.
Adding to the energy of the night, Coventry Music’s own rising talent, DJ Undecided, a participant in COV’s Girls on Fire female DJ project, kept the atmosphere vibrant, entertaining guests with a brilliant set that carried the celebration from start to finish.
The event was a powerful reminder of what Coventry’s young people can achieve when creativity, support, and opportunity come together. Phoenix Rising continue to live up to their name, growing stronger, braver, and more inspiring with every performance.
