20 young people took part in a composing project funded by the Royal College of Music during February Half term

Project Sequenza! is a composing project for 12–14 year-olds, funded by the Royal College of Music (RCM) in conjunction with Coventry Music. The first two sessions occurred in the February half-term at the Albany Theatre led by Kevin Stannard and a strong team of tutors. Over 20 young composers enjoyed their time composing in duo and quartets and working on group improvisations. Using a range of stimuli from the Italian composer Luciano Berio, the French composer Maurice Ravel and the American musician Pat Metheny, students began to create new music using a variety of instruments and there have already been some exciting outcomes which will be shared in the hub’s forthcoming Digital Music Festival! Composing resumes in the May half-term. Budding composers who missed the first two days and would like to join the cohort should contact Kevin here: kevin.stannard@coventry.gov.uk
