We are launching a new series of case studies celebrating the achievements of young people and highlighting the difference that music education, partnership working & access to opportunities can make.
From weekly lessons to award-winning performances
Our first case study focuses on a talented young flautist from Stoke Park School whose dedication and enthusiasm for music have led to an impressive range of achievements during 2025/26.
Alongside weekly instrumental lessons and regular participation in Coventry Music's Flute Group, he has embraced opportunities across Coventry and beyond. These have included the Sequenza project, working with staff from the Royal College of Music, National Youth Orchestra Youth Leader Training, Coventry Music's Journalism Project, and participation in the wider Coventry and Warwickshire Youth Orchestra.
His commitment to developing as a musician is already producing fantastic results. He achieved a Distinction in Grade 5 Flute, successfully completed Grade 5 Music Theory, and is now preparing to move directly towards Grade 7.
He also recently took first place at the Leamington Spa Competitive Music Festival, achieving an impressive 90/100. The adjudicator described his playing as:
"An exceptional performance, both technically and artistically."
But his development is about more than exam results and competition success. He is becoming increasingly confident as a young musician and leader, taking greater responsibility within Coventry Music's Flute Group and using the Journalism Project to find his voice when talking about his musical ambitions and the wider music industry.
His next steps are equally ambitious, with plans including further orchestral opportunities, Grade 7 Flute, GCSE Music and, in the longer term, working towards conservatoire or university study.
His story is a fantastic example of what can happen when talent, commitment and high-quality musical opportunities come together, and we look forward to following the next stage of his musical journey.
Keep an eye out for the next story in our Coventry Music case study series.
